Connecting Inner and Outer Peace
In the pursuit of building stronger relationships and fostering a sense of community, a certain quality is often encouraged. It’s a quality that can bring people together, diffuse tension, and create a sense of belonging. Yet, putting a finger on what exactly this quality is, or how to cultivate it, can be elusive.
Ancient wisdom from Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching (Chapter 27) offers insight: “How do I know the way of all things at the beginning? By what is within me. The more I know myself, the more I forget myself. The more I forget myself, the more I become one with all things.”
Self-awareness and understanding are the foundation of kindness. Cultivating empathy, compassion, and mindfulness fosters a deeper connection with others. Recognizing that everyone desires kindness, as negative emotions often spark negative reactions, becomes clear. Kindness, though perceived differently, has a universal impact. Embracing kindness as a way of life creates a ripple effect of love, respect, and understanding that resonates throughout all aspects of life.
